The surveys will reflect voter sentiment and trends across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry

Weeks after Assam voted in a single-phase to select new MLAs to its 126-member Assembly, the state is now waiting for exit poll predictions. While votes will be counted on May 4, media channels and pollsters are expected to release exit polls on Wednesday after polling in the final phase of West Bengal Assembly Elections ends at 6 p.m.

The surveys will reflect voter sentiment and trends across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry. Even though Assam voted on April 9, exit polls are released together because Election Commission of India rules mandate a uniform release window when polls are held simultaneously in many states. This ensures fairness in the electoral process by preventing any influence in regions where polling is due.

In Assam, several districts including South Salmara Mankachar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhubri, and Goalpara recorded over 90% voter turnout in this election. Election Commission officials said this was driven by strong outreach through booth-level officers.

The ruling BJP is seeking a third term, contesting 90 seats with allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Party. The Congress-led alliance is contesting through a six-party coalition, including Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad.

“What we set out to do was not merely fight an election, but to turn it into a movement — a movement to protect our civilisational values, our culture, and our land,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said earlier.
