Deflation Threat Creeps Back Into Asia Amid Virus Havoc

While many Asian central banks have spent the year slashing interest rates and boosting money supply in an effort to salvage the economic havoc wrought by the pandemic, deflation fears still managed to crop up across parts of the region. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan are expected to see prices fall this year, according to the latest survey of economists by Bloomberg. Meanwhile, the rest of Asia will see slowing inflation, except India, where prices are forecast to edge higher thanks in part to supply-side constraints.
