New Delhi:

Seventy new special Income Tax department offices called the 'Aaykar Sampark Kendras' will be opened across the country during the current financial year to help tax payers file returns and address their grievances.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the administrative authority of the tax department, has decided to open these offices in various cities in order to help taxpayers get their grievances solved and obtain a number of services like applying for PAN card or filing of tax returns.

At present, there are 189 such special offices in the country which act as a single window for a number of I-T department-related services.

The new centres, according to a plan drawn up by CBDT, would come up in places like Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), Barmer (Rajasthan), Nasik and Latur (Maharashtra), Gudivada, Khammam, Mehboobnagar, Nellore and Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Itarsi, Rewa and Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh), Deogarh and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Begusarai, Muzzafarpur and Darbhanga (Bihar), Junagarh and Jamnagar (Gujarat), Churu, Bharatpur and Hanumangarh (Rajasthan), Agartala (Tripura) and Bongaigaon and Jorhat in Assam.

There are many other similar centres in other districts of the state.

"The offices, once operational, will act as single-window for taxpayers with regard to a number of their tax-related work. With some exceptions, all the 70 centres are expected to be operationalised within the current 2014-15 fiscal," a senior CBDT official said.
