US President Donald Trump hinted at a "very big" trade deal with India, as he spoke at the 'Big Beautiful Event' at the White House on Thursday.

Trump's remarks follow a four-day closed-door meeting that took place between both countries a couple of weeks ago.

"…We just signed (trade deal) with China. We're not going to make deals with everybody… But we're having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India, a very big one. We're going to open up India. In the China deal, we're starting to open up China. Things that never really could have happened, and the relationship with every country has been very good," Trump said.

An Indian negotiating team has arrived in the US to secure an interim deal as the July 9 tariff deadline looms, Bloomberg reported citing sources.

The four-day negotiations reportedly focused on enhancing market access for industrial and agricultural products in both countries, reducing tariffs, and addressing non-tariff barriers, according to people familiar with the discussions. The US delegation was led by officials from the Office of the US Trade Representative, while the Indian team was headed by Rajesh Agrawal from the trade ministry.

Earlier in April, Trump remarked that trade and tariff negotiations with India are "coming along great" and expressed optimism about reaching a trade agreement soon.

"I think we’ll have a deal with India," Trump said during brief remarks to reporters outside the White House. "The prime minister, as you know, was here three weeks ago, and they want to make a deal," he added.

Trump's comments followed US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's statement that the US is "very close" to a trade deal with India, noting that negotiations with India are easier compared to other trading partners.
