Covid-19 India Updates: With Over 43,000 New Cases, Active Caseload Crosses 4 Lakh Again

India reported over 43,000 new Covid-19 infections for the second straight day, taking the active caseload above 4 lakh once again.
The country added 43,509 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry's 8 a.m. update on July 29. Death toll also remained elevated, staying at 640 a day.

Lockdown Imposed On Weekend in Kerala, Centre Sends Team Amid Sharp Covid-19 Spike
The health ministry has sent a high-level multi-disciplinary team to Kerala to collaborate with state health authorities in view of the significantly enhanced number of daily Covid-19 cases being reported in the state.
A complete lockdown has also been announced in Kerala on July 31 and August 1 due to rising cases in the state.
A six-member team, headed by Dr S K Singh who is the director of the National Centre for Disease Control, will reach Kerala on July 30. The team will take stock of the situation, while recommending necessary public health interventions, according to a media release.
Kerala with an active case load of 1.54 lakh is contributing 37.1% of the total active cases in the country. Average daily cases being reported in the state are above 17,443.
Global Covid Death Toll Nears 42 Lakh
Globally, coronavirus case count topped 19.5 crore, while the death toll surpassed 41.8 lakh as of Thursday morning.
Sydney added further restrictions on travel and increased penalties for non-compliance as outbreaks of the Covid-19 delta variant reached a new peak in the Australian city of almost 6 million.
Beijing reported one local coronavirus case on Thursday, the first in six months, while authorities in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding provinces estimate it may take months to contain the worst outbreak in Vietnam’s commercial hub.
