Coronavirus India Updates: Lowest One-Day Deaths In Nine Months, Active Cases Rise Slightly

India reported the lowest single-day deaths due to the coronavirus in nine months, at a time the country has began the world's largest inoculation drive against the deadly pathogen.The country reported 78 casualties in the last 24 hours, taking the toll tally to 1.55 lakh in the world's second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry's update as of 8 a.m. on Feb. 7, 2021.

A sero survey conducted in various hospitals of the Kashmir Valley has found that around 27% of the healthcare workers have antibodies against Covid-19.

"A sero prevalence study was conducted by Government Medical College, Srinagar among healthcare providers of the Kashmir division in January to detect SARS-CoV-2 specific IgG antibodies," said Muhammad Salim Khan, head of community medicine at GMC.

He said a total of 2,013 samples were collected from all GMC, Srinagar-associated hospitals, district hospitals and police hospitals here by the Department of Community Medicine.

"The blood samples were tested in Abbott Architect i1000SR immunoassay analyser by the Department of Biochemistry and 555 blood samples showed IgG antibodies with an overall sero positivity of 27.3%," Khan said.

Kerala has reported the maximum number of single-day recoveries at 6,178. A total of 1,739 people recovered in Maharashtra in a span of 24 hours, followed by 503 in Tamil Nadu.

The Health Ministry said 84.83% of the daily new cases are from six states and union territories.

Kerala also reported the highest daily new cases at 5,942. It is followed by Maharashtra with 2,768, while Karnataka reported 531 fresh infections.

Five states and union territories account for 69.23% of the daily deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (25). Kerala followed with 16 daily casualties and Punjab reported 5 fatalities, the ministry said.

Seventeen states and union territories have not reported any deaths in a span of 24 hours. These include Haryana, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Puducherry, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Lakshadweep, Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.

India has become the third top-most country by number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

Only the U.S. and the U.K. remain ahead of India.

The ministry said 12 states in India have vaccinated more than 2 lakh beneficiaries each. Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for 6,73,542 of all vaccinated beneficiaries.

Till Feb. 7, 8 a.m., a total of 57.75 lakh beneficiaries have received the vaccine under the countrywide Covid-19 vaccination exercise.

The cumulative vaccination coverage includes 53,04,546 healthcare workers and 4,70,776 frontline workers, the ministry said.

In a span of 24 hours, 3,58,473 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 8,875 sessions. Also, a total of 1,15,178 sessions have been conducted so far.
