Kerala Accounts For 69% New Covid Cases

Kerala continued to remain India's Covid-19 hotspot, accounting for 69% of the new infections reported in the last 24 hours.

The southern state logged 29,322 new coronavirus cases, pushing the the caseload to over 41.51 lakh.

1.63 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 17.91%, according to PTI.

Global Covid Caseload Nears 22 Crore

Globally, total Covid tally crossed 21.9 crore, while deaths exceeded 45 lakh as of Saturday morning.

Florida reported 2,345 additional Covid-19 deaths in its latest weekly report, the most ever in a similar period. Kids were much more likely to be hospitalized as the delta variant became widespread, two studies from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Friday found. But children did not appear to contract more serious illness, requiring intensive care, for example, than in previous viral surges.

President Joe Biden said the U.S. economy remains strong after a disappointing jobs report, blaming a retrenchment in hiring on the spread of the delta variant. His administration unveiled a $65 billion plan to prepare for future pandemics, likening the proposal to the Apollo mission to the moon.

India's active coronavirus caseload climbed back above the 4-lakh-mark for the first time since Aug. 9.

As many as 42,618 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. New case addition remained above the 40,000-mark for the fourth straight day.

Daily recoveries, at around 36,000, also failed to overtake fresh cases for the fourth day in a row.
