India's major textile infrastructure project, the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park, has reached into a pivotal phase with the Warangal park in Telangana becoming the first among the seven proposed mega parks to begin commercial production.

The official handle of PM Mitra announced the development on its official ‘X' handle. “Something Big Just Happened in Indian Textiles. India's first operational PM MITRA Park in Warangal, Telangana continues to advance at speed — with commercial production now underway,” (SIC)  the post read. 

Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh called this an “decisive step,” in building the future ready textile ecosystem. 

“Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi ji, India's first operational PM MITRA Park at Warangal, Telangana has begun commercial production. This marks a decisive step towards building a globally competitive, future-ready textile ecosystem," he wrote in an ‘X' post. 

What is PM MITRA?

The PM MITRA (Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) is a central government scheme launched with the aim to create integrated textile industrial zones across India.

The project has a total outlay of Rs 4,445 crore for implementation over seven years, up to 2027-28. The mega parks are expected to attract investments of around Rs 70,000 crore and generate nearly 20 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the country. 

Where Are the Seven PM MITRA Parks?

In 2025, the Government has finalised seven locations for setting up the parks, 

  1. Tamil Nadu - Virudhunagar
  2. Telangana - Warangal
  3. Gujarat -Navsari
  4. Karnataka -Kalaburagi
  5. Madhya Pradesh -Dhar
  6. Uttar Pradesh - Lucknow
  7. Maharashtra - Amravati

The respective state governments build external infrastructure like road, power supply and water supply upto the park. Projects worth Rs 2,160.17 crore have been initiated so far, with Rs 564.72 crore already spent, according to the Textile Ministry.

About the Warangal Park 

Located in Kakatiya of Warangal district in Telangana, the Warangal PM MITRA Park is the first among the seven to begin commercial operations. It's locally known as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park. 

The park is spread across 1,327 acres, and has 866.84 acres specifically marked for industrial use, and 540.41 acres already allotted to textile firms. 

The proposed investment in the Warangal park alone is at Rs 3,862 crore and is expected to generate around 24,400 jobs. 

PM MITRA scheme is backed by several complementary initiatives, which are as follows, 

  1. Samarth scheme: The scheme conducts industry-oriented training in the textile value chian, including spinning and weaving to support jobs in organised textile sectors 
  2. Export promotion: The government provides financial aid to export promotion councils and different trade bodies to organise fairs, exhibitions and buyer-seller meets to boost textile exports.
  3. National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM):  The mission aims to expand India's technical textiles segment, with a outlay of Rs 1,480 crore (2020-21 to 2025-26)
