Blinkit, Instamart & New Year's Eve — How India Brought In 2025

While Blinkit delivered 7X more grapes than on a regular day, Instamart saw demand for ice skyrocket.

Food delivery giants Zomato Ltd. and Swiggy Ltd.'s quick commerce businesses recorded their highest single-day orders on the 2025 New Year's eve. Both Blinkit and Instamart surpassed their previous order volume records on the back of initiatives like waiver of late-night fees for deliveries.

Blinkit's founder Albinder Dhindsa said in an X post that the company hit its highest-ever orders per minute and orders per hour on new year's eve. "All time high orders also happening in another 10-15 minutes," he posted at 9:30 PM.

Around the same time, Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan Addepalli took to X to say that Instamart broke its previous same-day volumes record set on Diwali, 2024. "We’re on track to double our sales of NYE 2023 - and the late-night rush is still ahead," he wrote.

Amid a rush of orders, Addepalli also said that Instamart was waiving off late-night fees for new year's eve.

Earlier on Dec. 31, Blinkit had announced the introduction of its large order fleet. The fleet, which comprises of electric vehicles, is meant to handle large electronics and party orders. It went live in Delhi and Gurugram, and Dhindsa said it will be launched in other cities soon.

The company also saw high orders of potato chips, chocolates, soft drinks and popcorn on the new year's eve. Dhindsa also highlighted an apparent spike in lemon orders, saying, "Nimboo orders spiking right now! Is it officially tequila time?'

Instamart's NYE: Blue Lays And Ice Lead

  • One in eight orders placed as 'Order for Others', surpassing both Mother’s Day and Valentine's Day.

  • 119 kgs of ice delivered in one minute.

  • 853 chip packets orders placed per minute.

Instamart said that the among international users, people from the US, UK and Australia sent the most orders for Indians. Highlighting a trend in preference of potato chips flavours on new year's eve, Instamart said, "Blue Lays is leading the pack against green, orange, red, and yellow."
