The demolition of the nearly 100-metre-tall buildings, Supertech Twin Towers, in Noida's sector-93A was carried out successfully on Sunday following a series of controlled implosions.

The two towers came down entirely in about nine seconds. The demolition was carried out with 'waterfall implosion' technique.

Following the demolition, the nearby buildings appeared to be safe. However, a detailed safety audit is expected to be carried out later, according to PTI.

The towers had been fitted with around 3,700 kg of explosives that were drilled into their walls. The mandate for the demolition was given to a Mumbai-based firm called Edifice Engineering and a South African firm, Jet Demolition.

This demolition was ordered by the Supreme Court last year after the Apartment Owners’ Association of Supertech Emerald Court filed a petition against the builder for violating construction norms. The Supreme Court had also found the builder to be in violation of the National Building Code, 2005.

The demolition was first ordered by the Allahabad High Court in 2014, but was upheld by the country's apex court last year after a series of petitions.

Keeping in mind the nearby structures, several apartment towers in Supertech’s Emerald Court and ATS Village were covered with a geo-textile fabric for protection. About 5,000 residents were also vacated, and their cars were moved out.

An exclusion zone was also created around the towers, with an area of a radius of about 500 metre being evacuated ahead of the demolition.
