(Bloomberg) -- South Africa's High Court reserved judgment on former President Jacob Zuma's application to remain out of custody while the Constitutional Court reviews his contempt conviction and 15-month sentence.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court will hand down its ruling on July 9 on whether to approve Zuma's request to have his surrender or arrest put on hold, Judge Bhekisisa Mnguni said following a hearing on Tuesday.
The Constitutional Court last week found Zuma, 79, guilty of violating its order to testify before a judicial panel that's probing graft during his nine-year rule and ordered him to surrender to the authorities by July 4 to begin serving his sentence. The top court's review hearing is scheduled for July 12.
