OPGC awards Rs 1,573 crore contract to BGR Energy Systems

Odisha Power Generation Corporation has awarded a Rs 1,573 crore contract for balance of plant, including ancillary and peripheral units, to BGR Energy Systems, as part of its expansion project.

The order is for OPGC's 2X660 MW thermal power plant with third and fourth units. The project includes development of a captive coal mine and railway transportation system.

The contract was executed by OPGC managing director V Kuppusami and A Swaminathan, director (Sales and Marketing) of BGR Energy Systems Ltd at the signing ceremony here.

The contract for erection and commissioning of the balance of plant of the proposed 3 and 4 units is for Rs 1,573 crore.

On April 27 this year, OPGC had awarded the contract of supply and erection of the main plant (Boiler, Turbine and Generator) of the proposed 3 and 4 units to BHEL at a contract value of Rs 4,051 crore.

The OPGC expansion project which secured financial tie-up in November, 2012 has been making steady progress and with the award of the contract it is poised to go into the construction phase, a senior company official said.

The plant is expected to achieve commercial operation in the 12th five-year plan. OPGC which is a 51:49 joint venture between Odisha government and AES Corp USA, at present runs a 2X210 MW coal based thermal power plant at Banharpali in Jharsuguda district.
