Dinner topped the charts as the most ordered meal on online food commerce company Swiggy in its ninth annual report on food ordering trends titled, 'How India Swiggy’d Its Way Through 2024: A Deep Dive into the Nation's Eatopia'.
The app saw 215 million dinner orders in 2024, which was approximately 29% higher than the amount of lunch orders it received.
Choco lava cake topped the desserts statistics with 3.6 million orders, followed by chocolate truffle cake, which enjoyed 2.27 million orders. Mother's Day proved to be an unlikely contender for most festive order season with over 193 cake orders placed.

The chicken burger ended up being the single most ordered food item after dark with a whopping 1.84 million orders between midnight and 2 a.m. Chicken biryani followed suit, ending up in second place.
Swiggy reported that it had 158 biryani orders every minute, which would mean close to two biryanis for every single second. This totalled to Swiggy receiving 83 million biryani orders.
A Delhi user ended up as Swiggy's hungriest customer at night time, due to having ordered a massive number of 250 onion pizza in a single order.
Snacks, the preferred companion for midnight movie marathons were also in focus, with the chicken roll ending up as the nation's most ordered snack in 2024, with 2.48 million orders. This was followed by chicken momos, which had 1.63 million orders. Despite that, noodles still emerged as Shillong's favourite dish, surpassing momos as the most ordered food in the city.
Potato fries were not far behind, with 1.3 million orders, proving to be the country's most popular side dish.
