Sensex Ends Last Trading Session of 2015 on High Note

3:40 p.m.: The Sensex ended last trading session of 2015 on a positive note while the Nifty settled close to its crucial psychological level of 7,950 led by buying in IT, oil & gas and realty stocks which emerged in the last hour of trade. 3:11 p.m.: The Sensex rose as much as 176 points to 26,136 and Nifty advanced 55 points to 7,951 as buying emerged in oil & gas and IT stocks. 2:49 p.m.: Zee Entertainment was the top Nifty gainer, up 2.4 per cent at Rs 438.30. GAIL India, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, Tata Power and HCL Technologies were also among the gainers, up 1.4-1.75 per cent. 2:32 p.m.: The stock markets edged higher in the late noon deals on the back of buying in IT and oil & gas stocks. The Sensex was up 76 points at 26,036 and Nifty jumped 27 points to 7,924. 2:00 p.m.: Petronet LNG shares rose as much as 3.9 per cent to hit a high of Rs 257.40 after RasGas signed an agreement with Petronet LNG for waiving a $1 billion penalty that the Qatar-based company had imposed on the Indian company for breaking a long-term liquified natural gas (LNG) contract. (Read) 1:19 p.m.: Selling pressure was visible in pharma, FMCG, consumer durables, capital goods, auto and oil & gas stocks. 1:06 p.m.: Motilal Oswal has maintained its 'buy' call on Eicher Motors with its 1 year target price of Rs 21,196/share. (Click here for more brokerage calls) 12:43 p.m.: Shares of Lanco Infratech jumped as much as 3 per cent to hit a high of Rs 6.37 on Thursday after reports said that infrastructure company plans to convert Rs 350 crore loans to compulsorily convertible debentures. The BSE IT index advanced 0.42 per cent; Datamatics Global Services, SQS India BFSI, 8K Mile Software Services and Take Solutions. 12:05 p.m.: Bank Nifty was up 0.30 per cent; HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank were among the gainers. 11:57 a.m.: Cadila Healthcare was the top loser from the small-cap space, down 14 per cent at Rs 329.50. Berger Paints, Mphasis, Tata Communication, NALCO, Reliance Capital and Union Bank of India were also among the losers, down 1-3 per cent each. 11:45 a.m.: Videocon Industries has fully redeemed $194.40 million (approx Rs 1,290 crore) foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) through a combination of cash payout and fresh FCCBs. "The company has fully redeemed FCCBs aggregating to $194.40 million which were issued in December 2010," Videocon Industries said in a BSE filing today. 11:30 a.m.: Shares of Monnet Ispat & Energy gained over 5 per cent to hit high of Rs 36.95 on Thursday after the company announced that the allotment committee will consider a proposal to convert the debt of the company into equity today under the strategic debt restructuring programme. (Read) 11:22: The stock markets jumped in the late morning trades. The Sensex was up 47 points at 26,007 and Nifty advanced 16 points to 7,912. 11:05 a.m.: The market breadth was positive as 1,264 stocks were advancing while 883 were declining. 10:40 a.m.: Jindal Steel was the top gainer from the mid-cap space, up 2.64 per cent at Rs 97.20. Sun TV, Container Corp, Zee Entertainment, Bharat Electronics, Neyveli Lignite, Adani Power, Videocon and JSW Energy were also up 1-2 per cent each. 10:30 a.m.: Cadila Healthcare receives US regulator's warning letter for two plants, shares plunge as much as 15 per cent. 9:31 a.m.: The Sensex and Nifty opened on a flat note on the last day of 2015 ahead of the expiry of the derivative contracts for the month of December which is due later in the day. The stock markets have been witnessing thin volumes owing to lack of foreign institutional investor activity due to yearend holidays. Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex for a brief period reclaimed its crucial psychological level of 26,000, by rising 42 points and the Nifty advanced 13 points to 7,909. On the sectoral front, most of the sectors were witnessing subdued buying interest. Select IT, consumer durables, auto and realty stocks were witnessing buying interest. While selling pressure was visible in select banking, power and capital goods stocks. The broader markets were outperforming the benchmark indices. The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices advanced 0.3 per cent each. From the Nifty-50 basket of stocks, 26 were advancing while 24 were declining. Idea Cellular was among the top Nifty gainers, up 1.4 per cent at Rs 143. Coal India, Dr Reddy's Labs, Infosys, Tata Motors and HCL Technologies were also up 0.42-1 per cent each. On the other hand, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Power Grid, ONGC, GAIL India, Tata Steel and BHEL were among the losers.
