Efforts Not Acknowledged: Infosys Techie's Resignation Was Not A 'One-Day' Thing
In an exclusive interaction with NDTV Marathi, the techie said juniors got onsite opportunities, despite him getting satisfactory grades during evaluation.
Amid the ongoing work-life balance debate on Indian social media, sparked by comments from L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan and Infosys Founder NR Narayana Murthy, a LinkedIn post from a techie who left his job without securing another offer has gone viral.
Bhupendra Vishwakarma, a senior system engineer at Infosys Ltd., shared on LinkedIn why he left his job at the company. In a detailed post, the techie from Bhopal, who worked at the Pune office of Infosys, outlined in six points the reasons behind his resignation.
In his post, the 28-year-old alleged there was no financial growth despite promotions, accusing the company of “unfair workload distribution”. He said career prospects in Infosys were “stagnant”, and he had been given no recognition for his work.
He also said Hindi-speaking employees were overlooked in the company, and those who spoke south Indian languages like Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam were given preference.
Speaking to NDTV Marathi, Vishwakarma said his decision to quit his job was not a “one-day” thing.
“The situation (at my job) was bad. I did not take this decision in one day. I worked there for three years and within two-and-half years had asked my manager to change my team. I told him that I did not want to leave Infosys but want to change projects, because the main problem was with the time. But he did not acknowledge my requests," he told NDTV Marathi.
He also outlined how junior employees in his company got “onsite opportunities”, despite him getting satisfactory grades during his work evaluation.
“A woman, who was junior to me and was trained by me, got an onsite opportunity. Her mother tongue was not Hindi. It was South Indian. I did not get clarity from the management as to why she got the offer and I did not,” Vishwakarma said.
The techie noted that this was not the only case.
“One more person got an onsite opportunity too, and he was a Telugu-speaking employee. There was also another Malayalam-speaking employee. I asked the management to tell me if I was not doing good work. However, no one told me anything. There was no performance-based issue and still, I did not get the chance to get an onsite opportunity,” he said.
In his LinkedIn post, Vishwakarma also highlighted that there was no financial opportunity at Infosys.
“Being promoted from System Engineer to Senior System Engineer sounds good on paper, but it meant nothing without a monetary hike. For three years, I worked hard, met expectations, and contributed to the team, yet saw no financial acknowledgement of my efforts,” he had written.
The techie revealed to NDTV that his salary package was merely Rs 4.56 lakh per annum, despite working for three years at the company and having prior experience with TCS.
Vishwakarma's post has sparked significant online discussions, with many employees expressing agreement and others sharing their own similar experiences.
