India Collects Rs 4.55 Lakh Crore In Taxes And Cess On Petrol, Diesel In FY21

The Indian government's collection of taxes and cess on petrol and diesel jumped to the highest in at least five years for the fiscal ended March 2021.

The petroleum sector's contribution to the central exchequer rose 36.11% over the previous fiscal to Rs 4.55 lakh crore in 2020-21, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli said in a written reply to a query in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Of the 36 states and union territories, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat were the top five contributors in FY21. That even as the collection in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat fell over the previous fiscal.
