Hero MotoCorp Ltd. said on April 20 it's going to halt operations at all its plants across the country amid the deadly second wave of Covid-19 infections.
The plants and global parts centre of India's largest automaker will remain shut for four days, in a staggered manner between April 22 and May 1, when necessary maintenance works would be carried out, the company said in an exchange filing.
That comes as daily new Covid-19 cases in the world's worst-infected nation rose sharply on Tuesday morning to 2.59 lakh over the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1.53 crore.
The company said the shutdown won't impact its ability to meet demand, which has already been impacted as a result of localised shutdowns in many states.
“Production loss will be compensated during the remainder of the quarter,” the company said. “All plants will resume normal operations post this short shutdown period.”
Staff of the company's corporate offices are already working from home, with few coming to work on rotation basis for continuity.
