Google has launched an employee matching programme to help people affected by the wildfires in California which have gutted homes and offices. In an email to Google employees, Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai reiterated the importance of giving, especially during this crisis.

“The theme of being one team - Team Google - is especially meaningful right now, as thousands of Googlers are dealing with devastating wildfires across Southern California. We've launched an internal giving campaign, and Google.org is providing funding for the relief efforts. To everyone affected, please stay safe, and know we're here to support you," he wrote.

It's not just the monetary support though. Google's philanthropic arm Google.org has stepped up for relief and recovery activities. In areas affected by the wildfires, residents have been given access to SOS and public alerts so that they have access to critical safety information from credible sources.

Wildfire boundaries are also being updated on a real time basis across Google Search and Maps. Road closures and emergency shelter locations can be accessed via Google Maps and Waze.
