(Bloomberg) -- Facebook and YouTube have removed a video posted by U.S. President Donald Trump in which he repeated false claims of a rigged November election and sent love to rioters storming the U.S. Capitol.
Even though the video tells the rioters, many of whom are armed, to go home, “on balance we believe it contributes to rather than diminishes the risk of ongoing violence,” Guy Rosen, Facebook Inc.'s head of integrity, said in a tweet on Wednesday.
Google's YouTube said it removed the Trump video for breaking the site's rules on misinformation about election fraud, and also pulled multiple live-streams of the violence that it thought might inspire further action. Trump's video remains on Twitter Inc.'s social network, but doesn't auto-play and the company has blocked the post from being retweeted or liked.
“This was a fraudulent election, but we can't play into the hands of these people,” Trump said in the video. “Go home, we love you, you're very special.”
