Zomato Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Deepinder Goyal on Wednesday claimed that the company is saving over 1.5 lakh meals in a month with its Food Rescue feature.

The online food delivery platform introduced the feature on Nov. 10 to cut down on food wastage. Zomato's Food Rescue feature allows customers within a 3 km radius of the delivery partner to purchase cancelled orders at discounted prices.

Four months since, Goyal shared an update on Food Rescue customers on his X profile.

"Update on Food Rescue. Customers are now rescuing 75% of eligible orders and this number is steadily increasing. At the current rate, we are saving over 150,000 meals in a month. We’re truly grateful for the customer love this feature is receiving. On average, these orders are claimed within 2 minutes and delivered in under 9 minutes," he shared on his X profile.

The Food Rescue feature does not include orders with food sensitive to temperature or distance. This includes ice creams, shakes, smoothies, and certain perishable items. Moreover, the original customers, who cancelled the order in the first place, and those within direct vicinity of them will not receive the option to claim it.

“Food Rescue will show up on your home page automatically if there's a cancelled order available for you to grab. Refresh the home page to check for any newly available orders which need to be rescued,” Goyal had said in his post on X in Novemeber.
