The government has approved an increase in minimum support prices for rabi crops for the next marketing season.

The government has increased the MSP of Rabi crops for 2022-23, to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce, said a press release by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday.

The highest absolute increase in MSP was for lentil, rapeseeds and mustard by Rs 400 per quintal each, followed by gram, barley and safflower.

The MSP hikes, in percentage terms, were modest ranging between 2% and 8.6% across crops.

MSPs have been aligned in favour of oilseeds, pulses and coarse cereals, the release said. The differential remuneration is aimed at encouraging crop diversification, it added.
