Areva bags contract for 2 solar plants in Rajasthan

Areva Solar, a subsidiary of French firm Areva, today said it has received a contract from Reliance Power for setting up two solar power plants in Rajasthan.

Areva Solar has been awarded a contract by Reliance Power to build a 250 MW solar capacity in India, a company statement said.

No financial details of the contract were divulged by the company.

Under the contract, Areva Solar will build two 125 MW and will provide construction management services for the project.     

The first phase of the project is under construction, with a target commercial operation date of May 2013. The solar power plants will be located in Rajasthan, it said.

"Today's announcement is just the beginning. We look forward to working with Areva Solar in helping meet India's clean energy goals through this project," J P Chalasani, CEO of Reliance Power said stated.

"We will leverage our best-in-class experience to help make India and Reliance global solar industry leaders. This contract reinforces the Areva strategy in renewable energies," Areva CEO Luc Oursel stated.     

Currently, Areva Solar has more than 500 MW projects in operation, under construction or in advanced development.
