Akasa Air's Capital Infusion Plan On Track, No Risks Seen, Says CFO
The fresh capital, estimated at around Rs 625–835 crore, is aimed at helping the airline expand its fleet and strengthen its balance sheet.

Akasa Air’s long-awaited capital infusion is progressing as planned, with no risk of hurdles to the investments and government clearances moving ahead, the airline’s Chief Financial Officer Ankur Goel said during a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Although the airline has not given a specific timeline for when the fresh funds will be fully received, it indicated that the process is firmly on track. With the required regulatory approvals and corporate actions progressing, the leadership remains confident of closing the deal soon.
The fresh capital, estimated at $75–100 million (around Rs 625–835 crore), is aimed at helping the airline expand its fleet and strengthen its balance sheet as it prepares for growth on domestic routes and new international sectors.
“All government clearances, closing documents and corporate actions are in process. We don’t see any risk to the fundraise, and the investments are yet to come in,” the CFO said.
Once complete, the new capital will support Akasa’s plans to add more aircraft, open new routes and reinforce its position as a dependable low-cost carrier in India’s highly competitive aviation market.
Akasa, which started operations in August 2022, is India’s youngest airline and operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX fleet. The carrier was launched with the backing of the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, whose family office remains a key shareholder. The current fundraise is expected to see participation from both existing investors and new strategic and institutional partners.
In a February 2025 statement by Akasa, the carrier announced it has signed agreements for fresh capital from a consortium of marquee investors such as Azim Premji, Claypond Capital, and the Office of Ranjan Pai. The new strategic investment partners will strengthen its long-term growth plans the company added.
Last year, Akasa placed additional aircraft orders at the Paris Air Show, underlining its plans to scale up operations. The airline is also gearing up for wider international expansion, having recently launched services to Doha and other Gulf routes, with more destinations expected to be added once new aircraft join the fleet.
