S. Ramadorai, a former chief executive at Tata Consultancy services, has been appointed as the chairman of AirAsia India.. "I would like to confirm Mr Ramadorai as chairman of AirAsia India. A giant of Indian industry. A great thinker. Man from the south," AirAsia group CEO Tony Fernandes said on Twitter.. The announcement comes a day after the company appointed former Tata group chairman Ratan Tata as the chief adviser to the AirAsia board.. "That completes our team. Advisor, chairman, CEO and board. Quite a heavyweight team for super exciting Airasia India," another Tweet from Mr. Fernandes said.. The company had last month named 33-year-old Mittu Chandilya, a management consultant, as CEO of the airline.. AirAsia, which is the largest low-cost airline in Asia, has formed a joint venture with Tata Sons and Telestra Tradeplace of Arun Bhatia in a 49:30:21 holding to launch a low-cost carrier in the domestic market. AirAsia will have operational control of the airline, while Tata Sons will be the minority investor with operational role. The Tatas will be represented by two non-executive directors on the airline's board.. The airline, which will be based out of Chennai, hopes to begin operations in the fourth quarter of the current year and will operate in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
