2014 Auto Expo: 60,000 visitors on Day 1, as doors open to public
We brought you coverage of the Auto Expo and told you all about the cars that have made it there. Now open for the public, the auto show is for all to see. There were always doubts cast about the response that the Expo might get this year since it had been moved away from its usual venue - Pragati Maidan - to a faraway location - Expo Mart in Greater Noida.
But from what we can see, nothing seems to have dampened the spirits of car lovers. The 12th edition of the Auto Expo received an overwhelming response as 60,000 people visited the Expo to take a look at the cars that were displayed.
There were over 35,000 tickets that were sold through the day and the visitors were also treated to various engaging and entertaining activities at the activity area at the Auto Expo. Visitors undertook test drives at the electric and hybrid vehicles at the Electric Mobility Pavilion, experienced safe driving programmes at the stalls of some of the leading two wheeler companies where they were also educated on techniques and practices for safe driving.
In fact from what we heard, people were queuing up at the BMW stall for one glance and a photo-op with the i8 hybrid sports car. If on a weekday the Auto Expo can pull that kind of crowd, we can only imagine the numbers to double during the weekend. The numbers just prove the enormous appetite the Indian public have for automotives and it is just going to get bigger.
