The Yemen's Houthi on Saturday launched first ballistic missiles on Israel, marking the entry of the country into the Middle East war, which has disrupted the global market.

A military spokesperson for the Houthis, Brigadier-General Yahya Saree, claimed the attack on the rebels' Al Masirah satellite television.

Saree stated that a barrage of ballistic missiles had been deployed against designated "sensitive military targets" within southern Israel. Saree maintained that the violence will continue until their objectives are achieved and the aggression stops, “will continue until the declared objectives are achieved, as stated in the previous statement by the armed forces, and until the aggression against all fronts of the resistance ceases.”

Israel's military confirmed that missile was launched from Yemen toward its territory, but there is uncertainty regarding the interception.

The Yemen-based Houthi movement (Ansar Allah), supported by Iran as part of its "Axis of Resistance," said they would continue the operations until the US-Israel ceased the attack on the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Hostilities escalated between Friday night and Saturday morning as sirens went off a third time, triggered by sustained rocket and missile fire from Iranian and Hezbollah forces, through Beersheba and the perimeter of Israel's strategic nuclear research hub, as per Al Jazeera.

How can Houthis further affect the oil trade?

The Bab al‑Mandeb Strait, which in Arabic means “Gate of Tears,” links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is opposite the Strait of Hormuz, situated near the coast of Yemen, and is also one of the world's most important oil shipment routes. The Yanbu port of Saudi Arabia, currently used after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for oil exports, is within the range of Houthi missiles.

In 2023, they halted the passage to Western shippers after the Gaza war outbreak between Israel and Hamas.
