Singapore has reclaimed its position as the country with the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa-free access to 195 of the 227 global destinations on the list. Japan ranked second with visa-free access to 193 destinations in The Henley Passport Index 2025.

The index has ranked 199 passports and 227 travel destinations every year for the past 19 years. Ranks are given based on visa-free entry to citizens holding that country's passport.

India ranked 85th with a mere 57 destinations offering visa-free access to Indian citizens out of the total 227. India ranks much lower than both Maldives and Indonesia, with both island nations at 53rd and 66th spot, respectively.

The third spot is occupied by the European Union member states, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, besides Finland and South Korea, with all six countries granting visa-free access to 192 destinations in 2025.

The fourth position is closely contested by a group of seven EU nations, each providing visa-free access to 191 destinations. This group includes Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

The top five is rounded out by Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK, and New Zealand, all of which offer access to 190 destinations without a visa. Notably, the US passport, once a perennial top contender, now ranks ninth, with its holders able to visit 186 destinations visa-free.

The 2024 Henley Passport Index had six countries offering visa-free access to a record-breaking number of destinations. These six countries were France, Germany, Italy, and Spain and Japan and Singapore.

Afghanistan is still the world's weakest passport, losing access to multiple destinations. Their citizens have access to only 26 countries visa-free.
