Rajan Says He Doesn't Intend to Apply for BOE Governor Role

(Bloomberg) -- Raghuram Rajan, who previously led the Reserve Bank of India, said he doesn't intend to apply for the role of Bank of England governor.

Rajan, now a professor at the University of Chicago, was speaking to reporters following an event in London on Wednesday. Mark Carney, who currently heads the BOE, is due to step down at the end of June 2019 after becoming the first foreigner to run the U.K. central bank in its three centuries.

“I have a very good job at the University of Chicago. and I am actually an academic, not a professional central banker,” Rajan said. “I'm very happy where I am.”

When asked if he was ruling out applying for the role, he replied: “I've said all I can say -- I'm very happy where I am. I'm not going to apply for a job anywhere, absolutely.”
