Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on July 7, according to Israeli and US officials, as the administration urges its ally to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas.

The officials asked not to be identified discussing details that haven't been publicly announced. Earlier Monday, the White House said it was working on a date for the meeting. The meeting date was previously reported by Axios.

Trump has praised Netanyahu for his stewardship of Israel's 12-day war against Iran, and criticized legal proceedings against the prime minister as “a political witch hunt.” With Netanyahu's backing, Trump ordered strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities just more than a week ago. Trump later said the sites had been “obliterated.”

Last week, Trump said he thought a ceasefire in Gaza could be “close” and a deal might be possible within the next week. He hasn't provided further details on how an agreement might unfold or said to whom he spoke about a possible halt in the war that began with the Hamas assault on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Ron Dermer, Israel's minister for strategic affairs, traveled to Washington for meetings with US officials and to prepare for Netanyahu's visit.
