While a final decision has yet to be made, three individuals have been proposed to lead the caretaker government:
Balendra Shah: The mayor of Kathmandu, a former rapper, and an independent politician who has become a prominent figure in the youth-led "Gen Z" protests.
Sushila Karki: A former Chief Justice and the first woman to hold that position in Nepal. She is seen as an apolitical choice, which may appeal to the protest movement.
Harka Sampang: The mayor of Hetauda and another independent leader who has gained popularity through a grassroots, anti-establishment approach.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, also known as 'Balen' is being considered to be a potential candidate for the next Prime Minister of Nepal, backed by some of the Gen Z protestors.
Given the escalating political turmoil in Nepal, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered officials to increase surveillance along the state's border with its neighbor.
During a high-level meeting via video conference on Tuesday night, Dhami instructed district administrations, police, and security forces to intensify checks at border points to monitor for "anti-social and disruptive elements." He emphasized the need for strict oversight of all entry routes and heightened vigilance on cross-border movement.
At least five juvenile inmates died during a clash with security personnel at a jail in western Nepal, while more than 7,000 prisoners escaped from different jails across the country during the violent anti-government protests, according to media reports.

Nepal proposes former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as its interim leader. The appointment comes after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned from his post amidst the unrest.
Gauri K, who had gone on a Kailash-Mansarovar expedition with her sister, said she was stuck along with a large number of Indians at a hotel.
"There was absolute anarchy everywhere. Smoke was billowing from buildings torched by mobs. Though a curfew was in place, youths were roaming freely, and we also heard gunshots intermittently," she said.

After a 24-hour closure, Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport has reopened for all civilian flights, according to a statement from the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday.
China urged Nepal to peacefully resolve its internal crisis and restore stability after PM Oli resigned following violent youth-led protests. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a Beijing press briefing that China and Nepal are "traditional friendly neighbours" and encouraged all groups in Nepal to "properly handle domestic issues" to quickly restore social order.

An official dialogue between protesting youths and the Nepali Army will take place today in the presence of President Ram Chandra Paudel. On Tuesday night, an informal discussion was held between representatives of the protesting youths and Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel, NDTV reproted.
The Nepal Army on Wednesday, said the prohibitory order in the country was in force and will remain effective until 5 p.m. following which a nationwide curfew will be imposed until 6 a.m. Thursday, The Kathmandu Post reported.
The Army issued a statement saying that in the name of the movement, the unruly groups carried out attacks on individuals and property and attempted sexual assaults, the Indian Express reported.

Central agencies have issued alert along the Nepal border. Alerts have been issued to Bihar Police, UP Police, SSB, who have been asked to keep strict vigil on the border, NDTV reported.
In the wake of the ongoing unrest in Nepal, as many as 187 Telugu citizens have been identified as stranded in different locations across the country. Minister Nara Lokesh has decided to skip NDA’s ‘Super 6 Super Hit’ event, and is monitoring early rescue efforts from the state RTG headquarters at Amaravati, NDTV reported.
The stranded citizens are spread across four locations:
Bafal – 27 persons under the care of Sridharacharyulu
Similkot – 12 persons with Kari Appa Rao
Mahadev Hotel, Pashupati – 55 persons with Vijaya
Pingalasthan, Gaushala – 90 persons

After protest escalated in Nepal leading to the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the Ministry of External Affairs of India issued advisory for Indian citizen stating, "In view of the developing situation in Nepal, Indian citizens are advised to defer travel there until the situation has stabilised."
It further added that, "Indian citizens presently in Nepal are advised to shelter in their current places of residence, avoid going out onto the streets and exercise all due caution."
MEA also said, "They are also advised to follow local safety advisories from Nepal authorities as well as the Embassy of India in Kathmandu."

Chief of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, urged Gen Z protestors to pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue as Army troops are deployed to maintain order, NDTV reported.
As per a report by NDTV, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of Nepal's ex-prime minister Jhalanath Khanal, was burnt alive on Tuesday. She was trapped in her house, located in Dallu area in the state capital Kathmandu, which Gen Z protestors had set on fire. Chitrakar was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital but died during the treatment, NDTV reported.
