India’s Wholesale Price Inflation Moderates In April

Even as consumer inflation rose to a six-month high because of rising food prices, wholesale inflation cooled in April.

Inflation measured by the Wholesale Price Index fell to 3.07 percent in April from 3.18 percent in the previous month, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce. A Bloomberg poll of economists had estimated the WPI inflation, which tracks changes in the price of goods in stages before the retail level, at 3 percent.

Wholesale Inflation For Major Commodities:

  • Primary articles inflation rose to 3.3 in April 2019 percent from 0.4 percent in March.
  • The food articles index rose by 3.4 percent over last year compared with a 0.9 percent increase in the previous month.
  • Fuel and power inflation was at 0.5 percent compared to 2.3 percent last month.
  • Manufactured products inflation remained unchanged at 0.2 percent.
