An earthquake was reported in Pakistan on Saturday, with tremors stated to be of 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale. There were no damages reported by the time the preliminary reports emerged.

India's National Center for Seismology, which confirmed the earthquake to be of 5.8 magnitude, said it was felt in the neighbouring country at 1 pm (IST).

The epicentre of the earthquake was 60 northwest of Rawalpindi, and the tremors erupted from a depth of 12 km, according to local media reports.

The country's capital Islamabad, along with the regions of Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Chakwal, Mardan, Mianwali, Kalabagh, Karak, and Chiniot felt the impact of the earthquake.

The tremors were also felt in parts of India's Jammu & Kashmir, IANS reported. Shopian in the Kashmir Valley was among the regions where it was felt, the news agency said.

The earthquake comes after a massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake jolted Myanmar on March 28. The disaster, whose impact was also severely felt in neighbouring Thailand, left over 5,000 persons dead and around 8,000 missing.
