IndiGo has been ranked among the world's worst airlines this year. The AirHelp Score report 2024 has placed the Indian airline near the bottom at 103rd out of 109 analysed. The report also ranks Air India at 61st and AirAsia at 94th.

Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways and United Airlines occupy the top three spots.

The annual report by AirHelp Inc., a company specialising in passenger compensation claims, covered data from January to October. It used factors such as global customer claims, on-time performance, and feedback from travellers across 54 countries – assessing aspects like food quality, seating comfort, and crew service – to rank the airlines.

According to AirHelp CEO Tomasz Pawliszyn, the aim of the rankings is to provide a snapshot of airline performance, and encourage airlines to consistently listen to passenger feedback.

United Airlines and American Airlines ranked third and fourth. Both airlines have consistently ranked in AirHelp’s top 10 since at least 2022.

A new North American addition this year was Air Transat, which ranked 36th.

The worst-performing airline in the world is Tunisair, ranked last at No. 109. Joining it in the bottom 10 are Buzz (a Polish airline and Ryanair subsidiary), Bulgaria Air, Turkish carrier Pegasus Airlines and Air Mauritius. Also in the bottom 50 are North American carriers JetBlue and Air Canada. Alaska Airlines, set to merge with Hawaiian Holdings Inc., also saw a significant drop, falling more than 30 spots to No. 88 this year.

Delta Air Lines dropped to No. 17 from No. 11 in 2023. AirHelp CEO Tomasz Pawliszyn attributes this decline to a decrease in its claim processing score, though its on-time performance and customer opinion rankings remained stable.

IndiGo said in a statement on Wednesday that it refutes the findings of this survey. "The data published in the survey by AirHelp, an EU claim processing agency, does not report the sample size from India, and neither takes into account the methodology or compensation guidelines used by the global aviation industry – casting a doubt on its credibility," it said.
