The festival is preceded by Chaitra Navratri, nine days of fasting and devotion. During this time, devotees abstain from alcohol, smoking, and non-vegetarian food, while engaging in prayer and meditation. On the ninth day, Ram Navami is celebrated with grand festivities.
In Ayodhya, the entire city is adorned with decorations, and thousands of devotees gather to offer prayers, participate in religious processions, and celebrate the occasion with devotion and fervour.
Ram Navami: Significance
In Ramayana, Lord Ram is portrayed as a symbol of righteousness and virtue—qualities that remain relevant to this day. Hindus believe he is the divine force in human form and revere him as Maryada Purushottam, or "the epitome of righteousness." His rule, known as Ram Rajya, is considered an ideal model of governance, representing justice, fairness, and prosperity.
