A viral video involving eyewear giant Lenskart has sparked fresh debate on social media over the brand's workplace policies. The clip shows a customer smashing what he claims are a pair of newly purchased Lenskart glasses in a public act of protest against the eyewear-maker's alleged internal grooming guidelines that were recently leaked online.
The Incident
The video, shared on X by user Mohit Chauhan, shows a man destroying the eyewear shortly after reportedly purchasing it from a Lenskart outlet. The individual in the video claims the destructive act is a response to reports alleging the company restricts employees from wearing traditional symbols, specifically tilaks and bindis, at the workplace.
Social Media Split Over Viral Video
The footage has become a flashpoint for online discussion, with users weighing in on the issue, and several even taking digs at the customer.
A user posted a comment that read, “Lenskart: everyone needs to do this, buy expensive things and break them and buy them again."
Another said, “Guys tell him after he has broken dump it in the garbage can, don't litter the streets. And if he has so much money tell him to use that money to give to homeless people he will be at peace so @Lenskart_com do not make any profit [sic].” Yet another sarcastically wrote, “Lenskart should welcome such customers with garlands!”
Someone replied, “They don't have the guts to confront owners, only trouble poor employees.”
One user offered a backhanded compliment, saying, “Better than burning stores..cultured protest.” Another social media user said this would boost Lenskart sales. "Ever heard of Negative Marketing?"
