Users of Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, will have to shell out a bit extra for premium features. The microblogging site has increased the cost of its premium membership service (Premium+) by a whopping 35% for both new and current customers in India and other global markets.

The Premium+ plan's revised rates are now available on the X website. The monthly subscription, which was previously priced at Rs 1,300, is now Rs 1,750. The annual package costs Rs 18,300.

Two additional plans, Basic and Premium, are also available for users searching for less-expensive options. In India, the Premium plan costs Rs 650 per month, while the Basic plan is Rs 245. The Basic plan costs Rs 2,590 for yearly subscriptions, while the Premium plan costs Rs 6,800 yearly.

"If you're an existing subscriber and your next billing cycle starts before January 20, 2025, you'll be charged at your current rate. Otherwise, the new rate will begin with your first billing cycle after that date," according to X.

Premium+ features help subscribers improve and personalise their experience, and offer early access to X's new features before they are made generally available. Features include ads-free experience anywhere on X, largest reply prioritisation, Articles (a new way to publish and share long-form written content on X), and access to Grok, an AI assistant that helps users with various tasks, including generating text and images, responding to text prompts, and hold conversations.

Additional premium features include a blue checkmark next to a user's name, share of revenue generated from verified accounts' organic impressions of ads displayed in the replies of content a user posts on X, creator subscriptions, ID verification for protecting an account against impersonation, and access to Media Studio.
