WhatsApp's Planned New Feature: Starred Channel Updates

WhatsApp is planning to release a new capability that will allow users to mark channel updates as starred. By enabling users to store particular updates for convenient access at a later time, this improvement seeks to enhance content management in WhatsApp channels, according to WABetaInfo.

Through the Google Play Beta Programme, WhatsApp has updated its Android app to version 2.25.17.7. With its release on the Google Play Store, some beta testers have access to the feature that WhatsApp may launch soon to the general public.

Some beta testers have reported noticing the new option to star channel updates. A dedicated section for starred updates would allow users to easily get essential updates without having to go through full channel histories, thus helping users organise their favourite channel updates.

Of note, the new starred feature allows users to mark channel updates as important. Users can do this by pressing the star icon that appears in the top app bar after choosing a channel update. The selected update is saved to a specific section, making it always available for future access.

Through the channel info screen, the saved updates will be arranged in a special list. A section to view all starred updates from that particular channel is then accessible, providing a means of accessing previously saved content. Using the feature, users can monitor important posts like announcements, event specifics or other pertinent information. 

Also, through the overflow menu in the Updates tab, WhatsApp is offering a global starred updates list. Users will find it easier to glance through updates quickly thanks to this one hub, which will show all channel updates that have been flagged as important.

The starred channel updates feature removes the need to sift through lengthy post lists in order to view something important. Also, all previously starred updates from a channel will be automatically deleted from the list if a user chooses to unfollow that channel. This guarantees that the user's current interests are reflected in saved information.

While the feature is currently available to some beta testers, WhatsApp will roll it out to more users over the coming days, according to WABetaInfo.
