Instagram content creators frequently worry that their followers won't connect with their posts if they publish too frequently or experiment with content that isn't related to their domain.

To help users overcome this hesitation, Meta last week introducing trial reels on Instagram. The new feature allows content creators to try out content and see what performs best by sharing reels with people who don't follow them.

How Trial Reels Work

Once a trial reel is created, non-followers will see it first. This allows users to get a sense of how their content would perform if they wish to experiment with a different genre, storytelling style or subject.

If users are satisfied with a trial reel's performance, they can either opt to share it with their followers with a single tap or configure the reel to be shared with their followers automatically if it's performed well at the end of the trial.

How To Share Trial Reels On Instagram

To share a reel as trial, you have to create a reel as usual. Before sharing, tap the toggle to turn on "Trial". Once the trial reel has been shared, you may find it by going to your profile, where it will be shown next to any drafts you have.

Your reel will only be visible to you as a trial. Until you choose to share it with everyone, it will not be visible to others on your profile's main grid or Reels tab. Additionally, your followers will not be able to view the trial reel in their feed or Reels tab.

Your trial reel may still be visible to some followers outside of your feed. For instance, your reel may be shared by direct message or on a page that displays reels with the same location, audio, or filter.

Tracking Your Reel's Performance

You can see important engagement metrics—such as views, likes, comments, and shares—in the reels viewer about 24 hours after sharing a trial reel to gauge its performance. Instagram also provides you information such as how the trial is performing in comparison to earlier ones you've shared.

You can decide to "share with everyone" if your trial reel is doing well so that your followers can view it and expand its audience. This procedure can also be automated. When making the trial reel, you have the option to have Instagram post it with your followers automatically if it thinks it's doing well based on how many views the trial reel gets in the first 72 hours. This setting is always changeable.

The reel will be live on your profile grid when it has been shared with everyone, and it can be shared with followers on all Instagram surfaces.

Once it's shared with everyone, the reel will live on your profile grid and is eligible to be distributed to followers on various Instagram sections such as Stories or Posts.
