Truecaller Kills Call Recording Feature On iPhones, To Stop Service From Sept. 30

Choosing to focus on its core feature of combating spam, Truecaller is discontinuing its call-recording feature on Apple iOS come Sept. 30. Call recording was launched in 2024 as a premium feature for paid users.

iOS users who have call recordings on the Truecaller app and want to save the recordings have a choice of changing their storage preference to iCloud or by saving specific recordings by downloading the files to their iPhones.

Another option is to share the file to other apps such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox or to mail services. According to the Truecaller support page for this, users will have to repeat the process of saving to their iPhones or sharing to apps for each individual call recording they wish to save.

While Truecaller's call recording feature is relatively simpler on Android, with a button on its dialler, on iOS the app took a convoluted route by using a recording line that merges calls to record a call, and it is likely that this complexity and the costs associated with managing it led to this feature being stopped.

The AI-powered call recording feature offers transcription and call summary and is a paid feature available with a Truecaller Premium subscription. The feature allows users to record incoming and outgoing calls directly within the Truecaller app and during launch was pitched as a productivity tool, allowing users to focus on the conversation without bothering to take notes.

While the call recording feature will no longer be available on iOS, there is no word on any plans to discontinue the call recording feature on Android.
