Samsung has announced the official rollout schedule for One UI 7, starting April 7 with the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, and Z Flip6.

Samsung has announced the rollout schedule for One UI 7, beginning on April 7. The update will first be available for the Galaxy S24 series, along with the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. It will then expand to other Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S23 lineup, Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and the Galaxy Tab S10 and Tab S9 series. The availability will vary by region, meaning some countries will receive the update sooner than others.
Home Screen And UI Design
The home screen will retain its familiar Samsung layout, featuring apps and widgets. However, the design of the icons will be slightly modified. The app drawer will be enabled by default, allowing users to long-press on app icons to access shortcuts for quick actions. Users will also be able to disable icon labels for a cleaner interface.
Pre-Installed Apps
One UI 7 comes with a suite of Google, Microsoft and Samsung apps. Samsung’s proprietary apps include the file manager, internet browser and Samsung Health. Widgets will be stacked for better organisation. Custom camera widgets will enable users to launch the camera in a specific mode and save photos to a pre-selected album.
Notification Shade And Control Panel
Samsung has introduced a split notification shade. It allows users to swipe down from the left corner to access notifications and from the right corner to open the control panel. The task switcher will remain straightforward, with the ability to long-press app icons and open them in either pop-up view or split screen.
Edge Panel
The Edge Panel continues to be a shortcut hub, accessible by swiping from the edge of the screen. Users can launch apps directly into split-screen mode and save shortcuts for frequently used app combinations.
‘Now Bar’ And ‘Now Brief’
Samsung has introduced the ‘Now Bar’, a lock screen feature providing quick access to media controls, maps and real-time event updates like sports scores. Complementing this, ‘Now Brief’ is an AI-powered feature that offers a summary of the weather and daily schedule, accessible from both the lock and home screens.
AI Experience
AI is a major focus in One UI 7. Samsung has improved natural language recognition, enabling users to execute commands like “Put my phone on silent mode” or “Do not disturb.”
AI select: This feature analyses on-screen content and provides options such as editing, setting an image as wallpaper or even creating GIFs.
Drawing assist: Users can generate AI-created artwork by inputting descriptions like “banana with sunglasses.”
Live interpreter: This AI-driven function enables real-time translation of spoken words.
AI Features In Samsung Keyboard
The Samsung keyboard now integrates AI functionalities, including a translator and chat assist. With chat assist, AI can suggest rephrased versions of text inputs. The One UI 7 also supports conversation transcription with speaker labels and AI-generated summaries.
‘Circle To Search’ Function
Samsung has upgraded the ‘Circle to Search’ function, which now includes audio recognition. The feature can listen to music playing in the background and identify the track, offering details about the song.
Google Gemini
One UI 7 integrates Google Gemini AI, which can be activated by holding the power button. A new ‘Cross-App Action’ feature allows users to perform tasks across multiple apps. For example, Gemini can search for nearby restaurants and save the details in Samsung Notes.
AI-Powered Gallery And Video Editing
Samsung has introduced Generative Edit, enabling users to add, remove and resize objects in photos. For videos, there’s a new AI-based Noise Reduction feature that improves audio clarity by eliminating background noise. Another addition is AI-generated slow motion, which creates extra frames to produce smoother slow-motion playback.
Gaming Hub
One UI 7 includes an upgraded Gaming Hub, featuring ‘Do Not Disturb’ settings, performance adjustments, and social media shortcuts. Users can also monitor resource utilisation in real-time. The update improves connected device management, providing access to Quick Share, Smart View and Samsung DeX, which enables a PC-like experience when connected to an external monitor.
Camera Interface
Samsung has refined the camera interface to be more user-friendly. Camera modes now appear below the shutter button, and accessing extra modes no longer obscures the entire viewfinder. Additionally, Galaxy LOG Video Mode allows users to apply professional-grade colour grading to videos.
Security And Privacy
Security and privacy settings are consolidated into a dedicated dashboard within the settings menu. The Secure Folder offers a safe space to store sensitive files.
