Only For Google Pixel 10 Pro: Pixel 10 Base Model To Miss This Display Feature, Other Upgrades
Google may employ 480Hz PWM dimming displays for the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL.

There is both good and bad news for Google Pixel fans.
The Google Pixel 10 Pro models are tipped to get a display with better PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming, which is great for users' eyes. However, the Pixel 10 base model will reportedly miss out on this much-warranted feature.
Google may employ 480Hz PWM dimming displays for the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, as per a latest report by Android Authority. In contrast, the Pixel 9 Pro has a 240Hz maximum speed.
What Is PWM Dimming And Why Is Google Raising Pixel 10 Pro's PWM Frequency?
For the uninitiated, PWM refers to a technique used to control the brightness of the display by rapidly switching the backlight on and off. This on-off cycling, at a high frequency, creates the illusion of different brightness levels to the human eye, even though the pixels are technically either fully on or fully off.
Using the screen at lower brightness levels, where there are wider gaps between the pixels being lit, might induce headaches and eyestrain in certain people. Google is trying to mitigate this danger by raising the PWM frequency on the Pixel 10 Pro series.
Notably, the iPhone 16 range and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices also have 480Hz PWM dimming displays. Google is looking to match that as well.
However, the base model will reportedly continue to run at 240Hz, which is a tad disappointing for user who will have to upgrade to Pro models if they want the feature.
Base Pixel 10 To Miss These Upgrades Too
While the good news is that the base Pixel 10 will also pack a telephoto camera, the below features will reportedly be reserved for the Pro models only:
Vapour chamber.
Wi-Fi 7.
Ultra res zoom.
Ultra stable video recording capabilities.
The Google Pixel 10 series is expected to launch on Aug. 20, with the lineup reportedly comprising Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
