iPhone 16 Tops Sales In Q1 2025: Apple Claims 5 Of Top 10 Best-Selling Phones

In the first quarter of 2025, Apple and Samsung have emerged winners in global smartphone sales, with Apple iPhone 16 securing top spot. Nine of the top 10 best selling smartphones featured either an Apple or a Samsung model, with Xiaomi ranking as the third brand in the list.

A report by Counterpoint Research has highlighted that Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup, launched last September, remained a popular choice among consumers. After iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Pro Max model secured the second spot, while iPhone 16 Pro was ranked as the third best-selling smartphone. The fourth model of Apple's 2024 lineup, iPhone 16 Plus, was ranked 10th in the list.

iPhone 15 was also on the list, ranking fourth among the top 10 best-selling smartphones. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, Galaxy A06, Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy A55 also made it to the top 10.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C 4G was ranked at eighth spot. Budget brand Xiaomi’s entry into the list comes as a major boost for the Chinese brand as it did not secure a place in the top 10 in 2024.

Data from a similar period in 2024 showed that only Apple and Samsung made it to the top 10 list. Even data for the entire 2024 reflected the same trend, with no other brands breaking into the top rankings. The pattern was similar for 2023 as well.

The iPhone 15 was the best-selling smartphone in 2024, following the iPhone 14, which held the top spot in 2023.

The report added that in Q1 2025, iPhone 16’s sales showed strong performance in the Middle East, Africa, and Japan. The iPhone 16 Pro series made up nearly half of Apple’s total iPhone sales during the first quarter of the year.
