Instagram Brings Reels-Focused TV App To Google TV: What Users Should Know

Instagram has extended its TV-focused Reels app to Google TV devices in the United States.

Instagram Brings Reels-Focused TV App To Google TV: What Users Should Know

Instagram has launched a dedicated television app for Google TV users in the United States. The app was launched on Feb. 24. This follows the launch of a similar app by the social media platform for Amazon Fire TV devices in December 2025.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed the development in a post on Threads.

The Google TV app is similar to the functionality already available on Fire TV. However, for now, the feature remains exclusive to users in the United States.

Available On Play Store

The Instagram TV app is available on the Google TV Play Store and can be downloaded for free. It allows users to sign in to the app without entering a password, as long as the sign-in request is approved on a phone connected to the same network. The TV-focused app is expected to be available in other regions, including India, later.

Just like the Amazon Fire TV app, which was launched in December 2025, the app for Google TV is optimised for use on big screens. Users can also access multiple accounts using the app.

How It Works

According to a report by 9to5Google, Instagram describes the television app as a way of bringing Reels from users' favourite creators to the big screen, allowing people to watch and enjoy content together from their living rooms.

The app enables viewers to stream Reels on a television, making it easier to consume short-form videos in a shared setting. It organises content into themed channels based on user interests, ranging from music and sports highlights to travel and trending clips.

The experience also integrates on-screen comments and reactions alongside full audio, aiming to replicate the social aspect of scrolling through Reels on a smartphone. In addition, the app offers a continuous feed of videos from creators whom users already follow, along with recommendations tailored to their preferences.

Instagram's TV Push Began With Fire TV In December

Instagram first launched a TV-focused app on Amazon Fire TV in December 2025, marking its initial push to bring Reels to bigger screens. At the time, the company said feedback from its community suggested watching Reels as a group made the experience more engaging, and described the rollout as a test to determine which features work best on TV.
