The United States and its regional partners control the Strait of Hormuz, and commercial shipping continues despite Iranian aggression, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, rejecting three claims made by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) over the past 24 hours.
In its statement on X, CENTCOM disputed Tehran's assertions regarding control of the strategic waterway, the sinking of a Singapore-flagged container ship, and alleged American military casualties in Jordan.
Three FALSE Iranian claims in the past 24 hours: 🚫 CLAIM: The IRGC has continued to falsely claim control of the Strait of Hormuz. ✅ FACT: The United States and regional partners control the strait as commercial vessels continue to transit despite unwarranted IRGC aggression. 🚫 CLAIM: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed a Singapore-flagged container ship struck a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. This is FALSE. ✅ FACT: The civilian container ship M/V GFS Pride was hit by an IRGC projectile. The vessel sank while being towed to shore. Despite the attack, commercial ships continue to flow through the Strait of Hormuz (whose primary routes remain clear of mines), with more than 40 ships moving in the last 24 hours. 🚫 CLAIM: The IRGC claims they killed hundreds of U.S. service members in Jordan. This is FALSE. ✅ FACT: Three American service members were killed in action in July as partner forces defended against Iranian attacks. We honor the memories of all U.S. service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice and represent America's best.

CENTCOM also rejected the IRGC's claim that a Singapore-flagged container ship had struck a naval mine in the waterway on Wednesday. According to the US command, the civilian vessel, M/V GFS Pride, was hit by an IRGC projectile and subsequently sank while being towed to shore.
The incident underscores the risks facing commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions involving Iran and the United States. Despite the attack, CENTCOM said the main shipping routes remained clear of mines and that commercial vessels continued to move through the waterway.
More than 40 ships transited the strait in the 24 hours preceding the post, the US military command said, citing the continued movement of commercial traffic despite the security concerns.
The third claim disputed by CENTCOM concerned alleged Iranian statements that hundreds of US service members had been killed in Jordan. The US command rejected the figure, saying three American service members had been killed in action in July while partner forces were defending against Iranian attacks.
CENTCOM paid tribute to the service members who died, honouring their sacrifice and describing them as representing the best of America. The statement comes amid competing claims from Washington and Tehran over military operations, security in the Gulf and the status of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
