Grok, the chatbot created by Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI, is now getting a ‘memory' boost in a bid to provide more personalised responses to users. It resembles similar features available in Gemini and ChatGPT, which are top rivals of Grok.
In a thread on X, the official Grok account said, “Grok now remembers your conversations. When you ask for recommendations or advice, you'll get personalised responses.”

Users will also have the choice to delete memories from Grok.
“Memories are transparent: you can see exactly what Grok knows and choose what to forget,” Grok added. You simply need to tap an icon beneath the response provided by Grok to open the chats referenced by Grok to provide an answer. From there, users can decide which conversations they want Grok to forget. It is important to note that forgetting conversations doesn't delete them from history.

The memory feature on Grok is available in beta mode on Grok.com and its iOS and Android apps. It is currently unavailable for users in the EU and the UK. Grok said that the feature will be available on the X platform soon. The feature can be turned off by going to the Data Controls section in the settings.
For the memory feature to work at its best, a user needs to have enough prior conversations with Grok so that the chatbot can figure out the unique needs and preferences of the user. Once Grok has learnt about a user's preferences, it can give personalised responses based on the patterns recognised in previous conversations.
This new feature rivals similar options available in popular chatbots such as Gemini and ChatGPT. The memory feature ensures that users don't have to repeatedly share information that they have already shared in the past and enables personalised answers suited to individual requirements. While such features can lead to privacy concerns, users can also turn them off anytime.
