Grok 3: Elon Musk Vows 'World's Smartest AI' For Free After DeepSeek Hit! Aravind Srinivas Gives Thumbs Up

Tesla owner and billionaire, Elon Musk is offering artificial intelligence for free! Yes, the man who knows more about making money than probably anyone else, has just taken to X to offer the services of his company, xAI's AI tool, Grok 3, for free to everyone. His company has touted it as the "world's smartest AI". Musk posted this on his X handle, "For a short time, Grok 3 is available for free to all!" The announcement comes within weeks of suffering a huge setback after DeepSeek showed off its AI model that is arguably cheaper and better than what most companies have.

The twist in the Musk Grok 3 AI for free offer is that the service will be available to everyone for a limited time only. So, if you are interested in all things AI and want to compare with DeepSeek, Gemini, Meta and OpenAI, then take the plunge before Musk decides to charge a pretty penny for it.

DeepSeek Impact

With China's DeepSeek in effect setting the cat among the pigeons, in a manner of speaking, all the top tech majors in the US, have been forced to respond in kind, after initially welcoming the new entrant and then questioning whether it could have become so big, so good and that too so soon, without spending a pile of money. Some have even questioned whether it is safe to use, given its China links.

In fact, in his congratulatory X post for Elon Musk's xAI, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas brought in the DeepSeek angle too. He said, "Congratulations to @xai for building world-class reasoning models in such a short period. This is a super strong response from America to DeepSeek. America builds fast, and xAI team and Elon are setting the bar for it! When the API becomes available, we'll integrate!"

xAI Left In The Dust

And now, xAI, which has been lagging quite behind OpenAI, Meta, Google, Perplexity and others, has made a big announcement. The reason why Musk's company is lagging is because the billionaire was a late starter after initially supporting OpenAI with tons of money and then withdrawing from it only to be replaced by Microsoft there, much to Satya Nadella's delight.

xAI post on X helpfully provided the link for users to sign up for free, saying, "This is it: The world’s smartest AI, Grok 3, now available for free (until our servers melt)."

It added, "Try Grok 3 now: https://x.com/i/grok"

What users will get includes a number of things. xAI explained, "Premium+ and SuperGrok users will have increased access to Grok 3, in addition to early access to advanced features like Voice Mode."

What is new on this AI tool?

Unveiling Grok 3 Beta, xAI said, "We are thrilled to unveil an early preview of Grok 3, our most advanced model yet, blending superior reasoning with extensive pretraining knowledge."

xAI highlighted the fact that "Grok 3 is the most powerful model ever: crushing it in reasoning, math, coding, world knowledge, and instruction-following tasks and showing remarkable performance across a range of benchmarks."

Grok 3 has introduced two new features: DeepSearch and Think. According to xAI, "DeepSearch is a powerful agent that can rapidly synthesize key information, reason about conflicting facts & opinions, and distill clarity from complexity."

According to the company, its "Think" reasoning model is best suited for math, science and coding."
