Big Launch Hint! Take-Two Finally Teases This GTA 6 Release Prospect
GTA 6 release has been teased (sort) of for PCs by Take-Two, but the real roll out date is still a mystery.
Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has dropped a hint that GTA 6 might even eventually land on PC, giving gamers a reason to stay hopeful. Rockstar Games, however, has only stated that the release of this game on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will happen in Fall 2025, but past trends indicate that the GTA 6 PC release may follow thereafter.
Rockstar's GTA 6 Console-First Strategy
Launching the Grand Theft Auto game for consoles first is something that Rockstar has a history of doing. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both saw delayed release on PC. Sometimes by months and at other by years after making their debuts on consoles. A familiar pattern, if it happens during GTA 6 release, will definitely disappoint PC players who like their entertainment as big as it can get.
Money may well have much to do with this Rockstar strategy. Some think it’s all a matter of financial interest for the company as many eager fans may well end up having to buy the game twice!
However, others argue that it’s about optimizing the PC version, similar to past launches such as GTA IV. And this takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention expenditure by the company as many adjustments are required for a variety of computer hardware configurations.
What The CEO Said
Whether a GTA 6 launch will soon be followed by a PC version will depend on priority. Some games do and will get PC versions on debut. Zelnick answered the PC question directly in an interview with IGN. When he was asked if a missed PC launch was a mistake, he said Take-Two supports PC but releases games based on the situation. Civilization 7 will be available on day one for PC and Nintendo Switch, he added.
And when it comes to revenue generation, PC sales are not to be ignored. Zlnick noted that PC sales can make up over 40% of a game’s revenue.
So, a GTA 6 PC release is certainly possible given the popularity of GTA’s roleplaying (RP) community, but won’t be anytime soon.
The Bigger Picture
Zelnick acknowledged the growing influence of PC gaming and expects that trend to continue. A next-gen console cycle is coming, but the PC continues to be an important platform.
But for now, GTA 6 is reserved for consoles—and if Rockstar’s history is anything to go by, PC gamers just have to hold their excitement and be patient.
