Apple’s 45W MagSafe Charger With Qi2.2 Support Spotted Online: Report

The upcoming version of Apple’s MagSafe chargers has surfaced online, according to a report by 91Mobiles. These chargers are expected to be used for the next generation of iPhones, with support likely extending up to iPhone 11.

The report claimed to have spotted listings for two Apple MagSafe chargers on the website of Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC). These chargers have model numbers A3503 and A3502. The NCC is a body that performs regulatory checks on technological devices.

The chargers come with braided cables of different lengths. The A3503 charger has a 2m cable, while the A3502 has a 1m cable. The puck had a diameter of about 100 mm.

91Mobiles expects it to support up to 45 W (15 V × 3 A) of charging. This is based on the specifications of the puck.

It added that the chargers have been tested with iPhone 16 and iPhone 11. So, it is likely that the devices can be used to charge iPhones from iPhone 11 onwards.

The Verge notes that these chargers offer support for the upcoming Qi 2.2 standard. The present version of MagSafe chargers supports Qi 2. Apple has not announced a product with support for Qi 2.1. 

Thus, Apple has directly jumped to the Qi 2.2 standard. Meanwhile, The Verge and GSMArena claimed these chargers could be for the upcoming iPhone 17 launch.

The iPhone 16 currently supports up to 25 W of MagSafe charging and 15 W over Qi2. A jump to 45 W wireless charging would be a major upgrade.

According to The Verge, Qi 2.2 is an upcoming update to the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC)'s Qi charging standard. It is expected to support wireless charging of up to 50 W. This would be a significant upgrade from the Qi 2.1’s 15 W max.

Apple is also a member of the WPC. It has contributed a version of the MagSafe’s magnetic accessory to Qi 2, reports The Verge.
