Apple To Launch iOS 19 In June? Expect These Three Rumoured Features
Apple is set to launch iOS 19 at WWDC on June 9, with major upgrades expected in design, AI and multitasking features for iPhone users, according to reports.
Apple is gearing up for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9. The tech giant is expected to unveil iOS 19 — the next big software update for iPhones — at the event. While official details remain under wraps, early reports and tech tipsters suggest the update will mark a big leap forward, especially in design, artificial intelligence (AI) and multitasking capabilities.
According to a report in 9to5mac, three standout features are expected to be announced at the WWDC event.
Apple’s Most Ambitious Redesign In Years?
Perhaps the most noticeable change arriving with iOS 19 would be a visual refresh. Reportedly, this will be Apple’s boldest design revamp since the flat interface debut of iOS 7. While the company aims to retain a sense of familiarity, the overhaul will focus on making the system more intuitive, faster to use and easier to navigate, especially for first-time iPhone users.
One of the changes includes a redesigned tab bar experience. Instead of being fixed, navigation elements could hover dynamically over app content, possibly featuring integrated search capabilities. It’s not expected to be a complete rewrite like what was seen with the Photos app in iOS 18, but the update would bring significant visual polish and user experience improvements.
More Third-Party Intelligence
Building on 2024’s introduction of Apple Intelligence — the company’s in-house AI framework — iOS 19 looks set to push further into the realm of third-party integration. Apple is rumoured to expand its existing collaboration with ChatGPT by offering users access to additional external AI models, including Google’s Gemini.
This signals a more open AI strategy from Apple, allowing users to select from multiple tools depending on their needs. While Apple will continue to improve its own AI capabilities, giving users more choice could help close gaps where internal systems may fall short, particularly in generative tasks like writing assistance or conversational AI, reports suggest.
External Display Improvements
The iPhone’s chipsets are getting more powerful. Apple appears ready to unlock more of that power, especially when the device is connected to an external screen. iOS 19 is expected to introduce a multitasking interface similar to the ‘Stage Manager’ seen on iPadOS.
This new UI would allow iPhone users to run multiple apps simultaneously on a larger display, making the device far more versatile in work and creative scenarios. While it might seem like a niche feature now, it could reportedly serve as a testing ground for more advanced multitasking capabilities expected in Apple’s forthcoming foldable iPhone, likely arriving in 2025.
These three updates only scratch the surface of what iOS 19 might deliver. Other upgrades — including significant improvements to Siri’s AI capabilities and new functionality for AirPods — are also expected to be part of the announcement at WWDC.
