Apple iPhone 17 Series Set For Major Overhaul: Slimmer Design, A19 Chip And Other Likely Features

Apple is expected to unveil its most significant iPhone lineup so far, with the upcoming iPhone 17 series. The tech giant is likely to roll out the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, which may include four models — iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The latest series will come with major changes to design, performance and imaging capabilities.
Thinner iPhone With New Look
A key highlight is the all-new iPhone 17 Air, rumoured to be the thinnest iPhone ever. Its profile could possibly range between 5mm and 6.25mm. Featuring a 6.6-inch display, it slots in between the Pro and Pro Max sizes and is likely to attract users seeking a light and sleek premium device, reports suggest.
Apple is also said to be revamping the overall design across the range. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max may ditch their titanium frames for lighter aluminium builds, combined with a hybrid glass-metal rear panel.
The base iPhone 17 may keep its familiar silhouette but gain a tougher, scratch-resistant coating with anti-reflective properties.
All four handsets are expected to offer a 120Hz ProMotion display along with Always-On functionality — features once reserved for the Pro models.
Another design tweak could be in the camera department. The Pro variants could feature a redesigned horizontal aluminium camera bar, replacing the square camera bump. The Air edition is tipped to go minimalist, with a single-lens shooter housed in a slim horizontal module.
What’s Under The Hood?
Performance-wise, Apple is expected to introduce the A19 chip for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air. The Pro and Pro Max models will benefit from a more powerful A19 Pro chip. RAM capacity is also expected to increase — 8GB for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air, and 12GB for the Pro editions — compared to previous generations.
Camera Tech Levels Up
Apple seems determined to up the ante in smartphone photography. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to house a trio of 48MP sensors, covering wide, ultra-wide and telephoto perspectives.
One important upgrade could come in the form of a new 85mm-equivalent telephoto lens for better portraits. While optical zoom may be reduced from 5x to 3.5x, Apple plans to offer a 7x digital zoom through in-sensor cropping with minimal quality loss.
The iPhone 17 and 17 Air may include a single 48MP rear camera. Front-facing cameras are also expected to receive an upgrade to 24MP.
Launch Timeline And Pricing
Apple is likely to launch the iPhone 17 lineup during its annual September event. Though official prices have not been announced, early estimates suggest the following:
